Gaspard

My heart is full of gratitude for ALL your support.  If the truth be told I had been feeling fearful for days wondering how I could help Gaspard as I watched him grow listless.  It was too much to bear. I wish I could thank each and every one of you personally for your kindness!

It was during the third consultation in less than six days that a barium test was finally performed on Gaspard which revealed he had an obstruction in his intestine.  Yesterday the vet extracted a peach stone during surgery.  I recall now that Angélique went through a phase last June of eating mountains of peaches and, well, she must have thrown a peach stone in the flowerbed which Gaspard recently dug up.
Gaspard is being kept under observation until Friday - oh my goodness what a l-o-n-g wait this is - and today the vet told him he was being fed intravenously and seemed alert and as well as possible.  The news is good but I daren't get too excited yet. Last year's sorrow has made me cautious.  Please may I ask you to send another prayer for Gaspard?

Yes indeed my heart has been full of Gaspard these past days. Today the sky is forget-me-not blue and the grass is sparkling white.  There are oat and white chocolate cookies baking in the oven and Tristan and I are finally turning our attention to Christmas decoration making.  But Gaspard is always with me.  Yes, that is a special kind of love indeed and I am hoping he will make a full recovery and be back to his usual adorable, bouncy, irritating self!

Love to you all,

Stephanie

ps I'm sorry for the hazy picture  but it captures Gaspard's expression perfectly.

Monday evening edit:  Gaspard is doing amazingly well!  The vet did a wonderful job and we welcomed back a surprisingly bouncy dog on Thursday evening.  It was simply wonderful.  The best thing has been watching him throwing himself on his food again.  Oh yes indeed, Gaspard is one hungry dog now.

  9. Little Sweetie, imagine how wonderful it feels to have that gone and your appetite slowly returning? Very wise for the Vet to watch over him for a few days. He has the most wonderful face. A beauty.
Sending a heartfelt prayer to St. Francis of Assisi

  10. Good wishes to Gaspard and hope he will make a full recovery very soon. It is always difficult as animals cannot tell us how they feel nor understand why they are being treated so but if he is anything like my Thomas he will bounce back especially if the positive thoughts wending their way to him are anything to go by!

  16. Dear Stephanie, I know precisely how you feel. A silly little furry, warm annoying animal can indeed get under you're skin in the most peculiar way. When Molly (garden fairy companion) did not come rushing out to yap like a nutty thing & lick me in greeting, but was instead listless & still I was beside my self.. yet days later, from the vets, she did return & is once again her usual silly self with no further incident. Huge hug..I feel sure all will be well from here. Poor darlings x0x0x0x

  18. Oh my goodness that is a long wait. I really feel for you. I hated waiting the day I left my doggies in to be neutered, in advance of the arrival of our first baby, and I was a nervous wreck the whole day waiting for news that they were ok especially since I was the one putting them through the surgery. This week will really drag for you but I am hoping very much that he pulls through. They are tough wee souls and I'm sure he can't wait to be home with you. Try and take your mind off worrying with nice Christmas things

My thoughts are with you. And I'm really sorry to hear about your beautiful little cat, I don't think I was following your blog last year.

    Take care,
    Helen xx

  19. I am so glad all is as well as it is with little Gaspard. Our little pets take hold of our hearts when we are the least suspecting and their pain can rip us apart. I have thought of you and little Gaspard many times since your last post, and you both will stay in my prayers until I hear that all is well. Keep your head up.

  51. I've just caught up with your posts about Gaspard, and I'm pleased to read your edit. We had a worry over Archie's health recently too, it's amazing how these little doggies capture our hearts and become one of the family, isn't it? Wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas now that Gaspard is on the mend.

  52. Oh Stephanie,

I was so blessed to see your comment this morning! Thank you for taking a moment to come to visit me! I am wondering my dear heart, how is GASPARD NOW????? May he be well and full of energy for you! What a busy year it has been, hasn't it? I am working on a huge paper wedding dress that will be going into a shop window. It has taken a lot of hours in my basement workshop but I am making great progress. I am looking forward however, to taking a reading and writing break today, for my fingers are in pain from peeling off hot glue that drips down onto my skin!!

May the joys of NOËL be yours in your household and that Gaspard will bring you many more years of fun and happiness ma belle. And I look forward to another year of sharing our interests and lives together in 2013.

    Gros bisous, Anita

  53. Dear Stephanie,

So sorry I haven't been around much lately, but I have been in and out of hospital with Jan. Thank you for your email too! I know you sent it a long time ago, but I rarely check this email address.

I can't tell you how happy I am that Gaspard is feeling better! It must have been a horrible period for you and your family to not know what was wrong with him. I am glad he is looking better and eating again.

I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and all the best for a Happy, Creative and Healthy New Year. I will reply your email asap :-)!

    Love,

    Madelief x
