Fairy Queen

Fairy:

Over hill, over dale,
Thorough bush, thorough brier,
Over park, over pale,
Thorough flood, thorough fire,
I do wander every where,
Swifter than the moone's sphere;
And I serve the fairy queen,
To dew her orbs upon the green:
The cowslips tall her pensioners be;
In their gold coats spots you see;
Those be rubies, fairy favours,
In their freckles live their savours:
I must go seek some dew-drops here,
And hang a pearl in every cowslip's ear.
Farewell, thou lob of spirits: I'll be gone:
Our queen and all her elves come here anon.

A Midsummer-Night's Dream (2.1.2-17)

I never cease to marvel at the human ability to seek out and create beauty during traumatic times.  This bridal shawl, strung with around four hundred glistening glass beads, became an emotional life raft for me over April as malevolence took root in my home and I found myself hurtling down a rabbit hole into an eerie Alice In Wonderland world where nothing felt as it should.  And however much I felt the panic rising within me I was determined to savour the pleasures of April.  I observed the prettiness of wild primroses, violets and cowslips together with the cheeriness of cultivated tulips but, just as the first coffee of the morning had lost its flavour, I just could not feel them.  Come the month of May, however, I will be given a new lease of life.  Once my husband leaves our home there will be fewer lies, threats and less manipulation. I will be in the constant company of my three precious children. I have the gift of a new life ahead and I feel so very blessed.

Shawl: Mustardseed by Boo Knits
Yarn: Quince and Co.'s wispy, silky, laceweight Piper in the Longhorn colourway.
Model: a most patient Héloïse.

I cannot even begin to show my gratitude to you all for your kindness and supportive comments these past weeks.  Your wise words and virtual hugs have made an unbearable situation almost bearable.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Stephanie x

  2. My dearest Stephanie,
    I cannot begin to imagine the pain and heartache you've being going through these past weeks. You've been in my thoughts and prayers that you might find the love and strength to cope at this time through the love of your beautiful children and your beautiful heart.
    My dear, I was thinking of you while out walking this morning, the words of one of my favourite songs came to mind (it's a song which helped me through some difficult times), it's called 'Don't look Back' by Bliss. Here are the words, I hope you find some comfort there, even more so if you look the song up and listen to it.

    "Don't have to question, everything you feel
    It's in your heart, in your mind, in your soul

    Not everything you want is what you need
    Look inside, look inside and you'll see

    (Don't look back) take it easy on yourself
    (Don't look back) don't have to worry
    (Don't look back) take it easy on yourself this time

    As we rise, we fall, fall to the ground
    But get up, get up, on your feet
    And if you look around there's always someone there
    Just look up, look up, to the skies

    (Don't look back) take it easy on yourself
    (Don't look back) don't have to worry
    (Don't look back) take it easy on yourself this time

    (Don't look back)
    (Don't look back)
    (Don't look back)
    (Don't look back)

    Sending you love and hugs <3

  3. I am so pleased that you are beginning to get back your life, a new life, where all the pain and grief of betrayal will in time become memories of the past and they won't hurt you anymore.
    The love of your children will help you, I know this and better times are ahead of you. You will find the strength to enjoy life once more and come out of that cold and dark place that these kind of hurtful circumstances send us, you will feel the sunshine again and the warmth and beauty of all that is around you.
    The bridal shawl is so delicate and beautiful with its sparkling crystals and Héloïse is a beautiful model.
    Take care sweet Stephanie, I know from experience that a new and happier life is waiting for you.
    Much love, Dianne

  23. Honestly, I was just thinking of you last night, and this morning, behold, a new post. A new creation (I WANT ONE!) and a new lease on life coming your way.

    All I can say is that out of ashes comes a new fire for living. Stephanie, I wish you the best and your strength to take tragedy and turn it into life is admirable. But we all somehow come to a point in our lives where we need to do just that, to various degrees.

    Your shawl....oh my word, this is so beautiful, as well as the lovely model wearing it. May their lives be enriched by your strength, and your life be supported by their love as well. And you know what? I pray for their father. He needs to find his way back home to humanity. Anita

  24. Dear Stephanie, your photos of your beautiful daughter and exquisite shawl are stunning. Her shawl beads shimmer like ice against pur white warm wool. I love that you have quoted from Midsummer Night's Dream ... Just perfect. Your creative skills and literary appreciation are such wonderful resources for you at such a difficult time. Too soon for letting go and forgiving, but, given time and distance... Your hurt will heal, your spontaneous feeling for natures bounty will return to you. Wishing you love and hugs. Pat x

  27. Dear, sweet Stephanie. I am hopeless at saying the right thing, but I do believe in saying something, otherwise how would you know that I have thought of you often in these past weeks and hoped that a little sunlight would soon find it's way back into your life.

    That is such a beautiful knit, needles and yarn are just the best tonic for what ails us x

    "'Tis like the birthday of the world,
    When earth was born in bloom;
    The light is made of many dyes,
    The air is all perfume:
    There's crimson buds, and white and blue,
    The very rainbow showers
    Have turned to blossoms where they fell,
    And sown the earth with flowers."

  30. I hope everything works out for you, all the terrible grinding practicalities of life when things change hugely like this. I can see you have the strength and grace to move on and I admire you immensely for that. I hope with all my heart that where and how you and your children live will be easy for you all.

There's no understanding the hard times. There's endurance and grace and belief that all will pass and you'll come through this.
    I'm so glad that I decided to read a bit tonight and chose your post.
